Our accommodation Moinhos da Costa Apartments) is situated in the area near Caldas da Rainha (Lisbon 55 miles), a 16th century spa town, these days very much a working market town with a good choice of restaurants, small bars and patisseries. Other attractions include small pottery workshops and the colourful open air so called "Mercado da Fruta" or fruit market.
The tiny picture book village of Obidos with its quaint alleyways draped in geraniums and bougainvillaea is 3 miles away. Further west around 5 miles from Caldas, the Lagoa d'Obidos, overlooked by the village of Foz do Arelho, is a natural lagoon protected from the rolling waves of the Atlantic, making its wide sandy beach safe and ideal for children.
In terms of history and culture this is one of the richest areas of Portugal. The region also boasts one of Portugal's newest Golf Courses at Praia d'el Rey, within easy driving distance (pun acknowledged) of Caldas da Rainha.
